A Ton of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season

The winter break provide a plethora of pastimes far superior than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and harnessing deep breathing to refrain from yelling at family members. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy announcements emerged during the festive period, and should you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising announcement, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which might be a positive development. However, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the airing of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
