Alarming Video Reveals Moment Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Surprise Attack
One senior officer who rushed to the aid of a colleague that was assaulted by a blade-wielder received the King's Commendation for Valor.
Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against 27-yr-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a blade to the neck of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist subsequent to a traffic accident in that location in mid-2023.
Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Policeman stabbed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video shared by the agency showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood up, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a weapon outstretched.
He collided with the policeman who tripped and fell to the pavement, before Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the floor despite being continually attacked with the blade.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a safe opportunity, bringing the struggle to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "I need something on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell sustained two open wounds to his throat and additional wounds to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster suffered knife wounds.
The department said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his partner's blood loss before emergency responders arrived.
This most recent recognition follows after the trio of policemen won internal Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional union branch in April 2024.
They were also awarded a North West Bravery Award in summer 2024.
"The responses of all three officers ultimately saved one another and meant no bystanders suffered any injuries."
Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in April 2024, as stated by the department.
